Major parties ready; JMM, Cong caught on wrong foot

Though the Centre is said to have made a move to dissolve Jharkhand Assembly on Friday, major players in State politics — the BJP, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) and AJSU have already prepared serious plans for upcoming elections.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress sat passive all this while, hoping to form an alternative Government after President’s Rule was imposed on January 18.

The BJP is going to hold a ‘workers’ opinion meet’ at the divisional level in Daltonganj on May 4, the second in the line after one at Santhal Pargana on March 2. it is also planning another at Kolhan very soon.

“We are already in poll mode. The exercise is to feel the pulse of party workers ahead of elections and prepare a strategy to strengthen the party organisation at local levels,” said Prem Singh, president of the farmers’ wing of the party and also in-charge of the Palamau conclave.

Top brass of the BJP, including State president Ravindra Rai, former CM Arjun Munda, Yashwant Sinha and other senior leaders are expected to attend, along with those associated with the party since 1980.

The party through such meetings would gather feedbacks from the workers about poll preparedness and know their views about the way the BJP ought to move in future. The BJP has formed five such departments for Hazaribagh and Ranchi, besides Santhal Pargana, Palamau and Kolhan. It has held three Assembly level conclaves at Kolhan and similar exercises in all the 81 constituencies would start from the next month.

No different is the case of JVM, which is organising a conclave for workers, starting from panchayat level, on May 4.

“The number of such workers is about 38,000 and we expect over 25,000 will attend on May 4-5 in Hazaribagh. The conclave is to discuss organisational matters and the political situation. We presume elections will take place by November and have started preparing based on that,” said JVM general secretary Praveen Singh.

The Hazaribagh conclave would also see election of a party president. Proposal of names for the post, at present held by JVM supremo Babulal Marandi, will be moved on Saturday and election, if required, will take place on Sunday.

The JVM is also preparing for a series of tribal conferences by combining two to three districts and in the next three to four months, it would be in a position to declare candidates for all 81 constituencies.

Sudesh Mahto-led AJSU Party is on a massive membership spree through the State. “We are focusing on youths and women. The exercise is likely to be completed by December end and the party will be ready to face elections,” asserted legislator Navin Jaiswal. However, AJSU, at this point of time, is not expected to field candidates in all constituencies.
