Madan, Maya, others donate eyes, become immortal!

For the common man life ends with their death. But for Madan lal Jain, Maya Devi, Ram lal Behl and others in the elite league of eye-donors life goes on even after they left for heavenly abode!

“Countrywide 12 million people are suffering from blindness owing to cornea deformities. But only 40,000-45,000 eye donors are coming up. Cornea cannot be manufactured manually. If we want the cornea for blind bothers and sisters of ours to see the world, we need to come forward and donate eyes,” Dr. Bharti Kashyap, Medical Director of Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital said.

Among these 12mn hitherto blind people many could now see the world now with the donated eyes of these people. These persons (see the list alongside) donated their eyes to “lighten the dark lives of hitherto blind people”. The list features those who have donated their eyes in between September 2012 and 2013 – 28th national eyes donation fortnight - at KMEH.

KEMH observes national eyes donation fortnight in August and September. This year the fortnight is being observed between August 25 and September 8. During the fortnight efforts are made to raise awareness for eye donation. Blind patients are treated and eye transplant is also carried on them in case required.

Dr. Kshyap though sounded satisfied with fact that some people are coming forward for eye donation but she says “it is not enough and people and media need to do a lot” in this regard.
