They say being ambitious is admirable but being overambitious may prove disastrous for a person. General election results announced on Friday reaffirmed the fact for the 78 Independent candidates of Jharkhand, who dared to take the disastrous step to fight the polls despite the NaMo wave that eclipsed all political ideologies across the nation.
The results announced for the 14 constituencies in the state made the Independent candidates a bunch of failures subject to adverse comments and mockery as almost all the 78 aspirants not only lost the polls with miniscule votes but also their security deposits were forfeited.Sunil Kumar Gupta hailing from Deoghar district which comes under Godda constituency has secured the maximum number of votes in this ‘Independent Candidates’ cadre from the state with 22349 votes while Dhanbad constituency’s Pawan Mahato has got the lowest number of votes.
Interestingly, the latter constituency represented with the maximum number of such odd candidates. 16 out of 31 candidates from this region belonged to this category. The least ones were from Singhbhum constituency where only two out of 12 candidates recognized themselves as independent.
“This time we were definitely defeated by leaders of national parties but it has not shattered our confidence. Instead, this failure has strengthened our role in the political scenario of Jharkhand,” said Dr Krishna Chandra Singhraj, a School Principal who bagged the maximum votes (13200) among the independent candidates of Dhanbad.Similar were the views of Khunti’s Asrita Tuti, a social worker who got the least votes (4349) in her constituency. She said, “Former CM Madhu Koda and Former HRD minister Bandhu Tirkey were independent candidates. When they could achieve a designation in the state Government, we can also desire the same.”
Another independent candidate, Mobin Khan, a JUSCO Sanitary Assistant who competed from Jamshedpur said that the public is still unable to identify a candidate on his or her own potentials. “Our natives vote for candidates representing under the banner of a national political party. They are still not capable of identifying a candidate on his or her personal contribution towards the society,” Khan said.
