The town witnessed a horrific double suicide on Monday when a boy and a girl, belonging to two different communities, ended their lives in a barbaric fashion.
The town police station officer in-charge Manoj Thakur said that no poison was used in the twin suicides; no Sulphas tablets were consumed either. A sharp-edged weapon was used to end their lives. The throats of the two were found slit, said Thakur. The boy must have done this first to kill the girl and then in self-destruction mode, did the same to self.
The boy, 20, was a Dalit, while the girl was of the potter family and two years younger than him. The boy hailed from Garhwa district, while the girl came from a downtown area in Daltonganj itself. They loved each other and before they ended their lives, the boy put vermillion in the forehead of the girl. "The two died like husband and wife," Thakur said.
The boy's identity has been established as Chandan who was doing 'some kind of studies' here in Daltonganj, while the girl was a plus 2 pass out.The police did not find any trace of sexual act between the two prior to their suicide. A diary recovered from the bag of the boy said that the two were 'madly in love with each other' and their decision to end their lives was a 'joint one'.
"The writings in the diary of the boy read more like a love tale than any parade of pain," said Thakur. The police found some wrappers of branded biscuits in boy's bag which the girl had shared with the boy.The throats were found slit, admitted the police, but said none of the two left anything to suggest anyone wanted to live any more as succumbing to injuries was more a determined one as none of the two tried to seek any help which would have come to them as the place of occurrence was in a commercial hub.
