lok Sabha elections: Sahay meets Sonia

In his last ditch effort Ranchi MP and ticket hopeful for 2014 general elections Subodh Kant Sahay met Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday. The consultation between the two has taken place ahead of Wednesday’s screening committee vital meeting which would finalise more names of Congress candidates by releasing the second list.

Sahay first met chairman of the screening committee Oscar Fernandes and later presented his case before Gandhi. “In the meeting he tried to convince the Congress president about his strong claims for Ranchi seat. Positives like absence of any other credible and strong candidate for the seat may go in his favour and he is also banking upon this and is hopeful to secure party ticket,” said a close aide of Sahay from Delhi.

Not only he but a strong delegation of block presidents are also camping in Delhi to back Sahay’s candidature and even gave a brief presentation before Jharkhand in-charge BK Hariprasad on Tuesday. In the meeting flairs also came out when one Ashok Chaudhary made passionate lecture before Hariprasad hailing Sahay. The submission did not go down well with the in-charge. “Do you want to ensure ticket for him or diminish his chances even further. Please be careful,” Hariprasad remarked reportedly.

Meanwhile, Pradesh Congress Committee president Sukhdeo Bhagat against earlier schedule to go to Delhi along with Congress legislative Party leader Rajendra Singh has decided to drop it. Sources said that perhaps there is not much scope left about feedback ahead of Wednesday screening committee meeting as the high command “is aware about most of the things ground reality existed in Jharkhand.” Chances are rife that two remaining names for Jharkhand may be announced after the 12.30 meet.
