Governor Droupadi Murmu on Thursday said that disputes related to promotion, dues, ACP and compensation in Universities could be solved easily through lok Adalat and positive efforts made by them. The Governor was holding a high level meeting at Raj Bhawan in Ranchi on Thursday on solving problems in Universities through lok Adalats.

The Governor further added that lok Adalat has proved to be a better process in the direction of providing justice to the people where petitioners do not have to run around courts for long. Hence, the Universities acting swiftly could solve the mattes related to retired teaching and non-teaching staff through lok Adalats so that they can get justice.

“Universities should positively act in this direction with full dedication so that smiles could be brought on the faces of petitioners,” the Governor said.

Speaking at the occasion, Justice DN Patel of Jharkhand High Court said that there was a provision of providing free of cost legal support to a citizen in the Constitution of India.

“It’s not so that all matters could be disposed of in courts only…..some of the matters could also be solved before the Vice Chancellor,” said Justice Patel.

Putting light on the importance of lok Adalat, he said that several matters could be disposed of in the minimum possible time though it. Due to lok Adalats, there has been a decrease in the number of pending cases in courts, added Patel.

Justice Patel also talked about the kinds of matters which could be disposed of in lok Adalats.

“Movement of files must also be expedited. There is a need to work sensitively in the matters related to widows, children and physically challenged persons,” said Justice Patel.

The meeting was attended by Senior Judge of Jharkhand High Court Justice DN Patel, JPSC Chairperson DK Srivastava, Principal Secretary to the Governor SK Satpathy, Secretary Higher Education Ajay Kumar Singh, Secretary Planning, Development and Finance Satyendra Singh, VCs and Pro-VCs of five Universities, officials of JHAlSA and several advocates.
