lohardaga: Oldest high school cries for attention

Published on:

Established in 1931, Nadia Hindu High School is perhaps the oldest school in the State. Over the years, the school has produced thousands of noted and famous students and also it is one of the most important schools in the region. However, due to apathy and lackadaisical attitude of the State Government and district administration, this temple of learning has reduced to just a shadow of its former self and its structure becomes shamble over the years.

With more than 800 registered students and 400 students of plus two, the school has had the best chances and opportunities to draw attention of the administration; unfortunately or by its sheer bad luck the school has just 10 teachers to provide services to the students community in this age and generation.

The school has leakages all over and during rainy reason the students have to face an expected scenario and problems. In 2007, the school had received 10 computer sets from the authorities but due to lack manpower or trained staff, all the computers are not even in workable position. What’s more due to lack of required teachers the classes have not been started although the months have crossed half past.

The laboratory is just only for name sake. Many a time, anti-social elements have used the building and used to pass the boundary of the school. The school management has written and asked for funds, but still lying in the dustbin of the district administration. At present, only two security guards are stationed to safeguard the building. At the time of establishment of the school a hostel was also constructed. These days’ 70 students live in 30 rooms. For last 15 years, the hostel has not been repaired. There is the problem of water leakage in the rooms. The toilets can not be used and the students have to go to the open sites. wholesale market in KUBS and retail market.

Onion is available at between Rs 22-24 per kg from KUBS and sold at between Rs 28-30 per kg in market  while potato is available at between Rs 14-15 at KUBS and sold at between Rs 20-22 per kg in market.  The East Singhbhum district administration has decided to charge ground rents on melas, exhibitions, and entertainment programs held at public grounds like Gopal Maidan (Bistupur), Aam Bagan ground (Sakchi), G Town ground (Bistupur), Kadma Ganesh Puja ground (Kadma), and others.

The decision taken at the three-hour long district internal resource and revenue meeting chaired by East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal at the district collectorate today will add to the financial expenses of the organisers in organising industrial trade fairs, exhibition, fairs, entertainment programmes. The amount to be levied for ground rents will be decided by the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC).
