lodges, hotels yet to adhere to tenant verification guidelines

After the identification of suspected Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative Muzibullah Ansari in early November who was staying at Hindipiri’s Iram lodge as a civil services aspirant, District Police had instructed all police stations to record full verification of tenants but the direction seem to have fallen on deaf ears.

“Few law abiding landlords have submitted their tenant’s details. But, most of the owners of lodges, hotels and hostels had still not approached the concerned police stations. It is not possible for the police to go door to door and note down details of tenants,” said City Superintendent of Police (SP) Chothe Manoj Ratna.

The City SP pointed out that this notification was announced earlier as well by Senior SP across the city. “Unfortunately then no one came forward for this verification,” he quoted.

At the time of Ansari’s case relating suspicious elements hangout at the lodge State capital’s authorities like Police and Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) had cited that they were not updated about tenants by owners of the above mentioned places so were unable to trace this person easily.

Room number 8 of this lodge was said to be a major part of the conspiracy to explode bombs at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan before Bharatiya Janta Party leader Narendra Modi’s high profile rally on October 7 was started. The city police personnel are conducting a census in the commercial and residential places around the Prabhat Tara ground in HEC area where Modi’s rally is scheduled on December 29. “Since the instruction of tenant verification is not receiving a proper feedback, we have decided to keep a regular watch in the demographic changes in and around this area,” the City SP added.

On the other side, most of the local lodge owners claim to update information about their hotel clients or lodge tenants. “We do maintain the details about our customers lodging in our place,” said lodge owners at Station Road, Kutchery road and Church Road.
