The residents of Steel City can now look forward to lodge an FIR without going over to the police station. One can log on to the website “jofs.jharkhand.gov.in” mentioning the police station’s name, and the complaint will be immediately registered. The system of lodging police complaint online has been made available in Kadma, Sonari and Potka  police stations in the East Singhbhum district after Chief Minister Raghubar Das inaugurated the system on-line from Ranchi on Wednesday.

A function was organised near the Senior SP office in Bistupur on the occasion.  Superintendent of police (city) Chandan Jha, SP (rural) Shailendra Kumar Sinha and all the deputy superintendents of police as well as officers-in-charge of police stations were present on the occasion. Addressing the function, City SP said initially the on-line FIR system was being introduced in three police stations only and the rest of the police stations across East Singhbhum will be covered under the new system soon.

Addressing a gathering of police officers, Jha said that the facility has been designed in a way to help people, especially the women and elderly people to lodge complaints with the police at ease. “This is our ambitious project and we are looking forward to make it a success. The best part is that the  aggrieved people will be able to lodge the complaint by sitting at their house or other place. The police have to fulfill their duty with much responsibility,” said the City SP.

Jha, when asked, later in the day said that no complaint was lodged on-line till late in the afternoon, suggesting that the people are not aware of the system as yet. For making the system run properly, the district police authority is giving training to some selected cops who are cyber-savvy. One of such cops, at Sonari police station said “We have been asked to monitor the on-line complaint lodging system from the police station itself and passing the received complaint to the officer-in-charge concerned.”

Significantly, the district police have also launched a system of round-the-clock patrolling of the city and NH-33 from Wednesday. For the patrolling system, the State police authority has sent two SUVs to the district police. Revealing about the patrolling system, the City SP said that the SUVs are equipped with wireless system and a team of armed police.

“Whenever we get emergency calls we will alert the nearby mobile patrolling unit. In case of snatching, they will chase the criminals, and for accidents or road blockades, they will try to sort the matter on the spot or inform the police station about the situation,” said noted an official. The introduction of high-speed vehicles has brought relief to the city residents. “We hope that the new system will certainly help cops to contain anti-social activities and help move at narrow lanes on their bikes,” said Pawan Agrawal, a trader of Sakchi.
