locals jam Murhu over contractor's murder

People from Murhu in Khunti blocked Murhu Chowk on Sunday in protest against murder of one Ajay Kumar Sahu, demanding that the culprits be apprehended without delay. Agitators jammed Murhu Chowk with the dead body, obstructing the way to Panchghagh falls from Ranchi, creating nuisance for picnickers.

Sahu’s dead body was found in forests near Murhu, with injuries from being bashed with a heavy rock. The dead body could not be sent for post-mortem till late in the day, sources said.

“We are presently searching the location of crime for more clues. This has become a serious matter; we will find out the culprits soon,” stated Murhu police station Officer in-Charge.

Meanwhile, those going to Panchghagh or returning to Ranchi from there had trouble getting to their destinations as the route was closed due to protests. There were reports of locals misbehaving with the tourists stuck near Murhu, even robbing them.

“There was some trouble when the protests began but we were able to get the tourists out from alternate routes. Neither have we heard of any cases of misbehaviour or stealing,” stated PR Mishra, Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations), Khunti.
