line tank pond languishes without attention

The Ranchi line Tank pond beautification and development project into a tourist hub is still far from completion.  The work on this project is going on from last two years yet it is not completed. Neither Ranchi Rural Development Authority (RRDA) nor the company empanelled knows what was supposed to be constructed and what has been constructed so far.

The RRDA, which manages the water body on line tank road, had empanelled the beautification and development job to Ranchi based Classic coal Construction Private limited last year. State Urban Department has also sanctioned an amount of Rs 2.43 crore for this project despite the work is delayed. Director of Classic Coal Construction Private limited Pankaj Kumar said, “As per my knowledge the line Tank Pond is either completed or is on the verge of completion. Within a week it will be opened for the public.”

However Kumar was found clueless when enquired on the incomplete work he said, “I am not aware whether the fountain is installed or not and also about availability of boating facility. I have to talk with my other officials about the status of the project as I have not visited the site from long time. I have been informed that all the work from our side is being completed. I need to verify the work being done.” RRDA Secretary Chandra Shekar Prasad said, “I have given them a notice to complete the work of beautification and development of the site into tourist attraction point. I did not know the current status of the site but within a week I am expecting the remaining work to be wind up.”

RRDA Executive Engineer Kumul Surin also could not shed much light on it, he said, “As far as I know these works are still pending, we have asked the agency to complete the work within a week and if they fail to maintain the deadline then further action will be taken against them.” “From last two years we are hearing that the pond will be beautified and developed into a tourist attraction site, but no much progress has been seen till date. I want the concerned authority to fasten the work,” said Hari Prasad a local resident.

Another resident Bimal Roy said, “Jharkhand’s delay culture has caught up with a simple pond beautification project that ought to have been inaugurated last November. We were excited with the news of line tank pond to be renovated into a tourist site, but now it seems that ought to wait long for it, because of these reasons only our state rank at the bottom list on development note.”
