Hazaribagh received the first showers of monsoon on Wednesday. It came as a relief for the denizens but in Ichak block two persons died due to lightning on the first day of monsoon.
The first incident took place in Chaprakh village of the block where Sanju Devi (30), wife of Deepak Mehta, died due to lightning when she was working in her agriculture field, about 1 km away from her house. Other persons present there immediately rushed to block hospital where she was declared dead.
In another incident lightning took life of Puja Kumari (18), daughter of Indradev Prasad of Moktama village of Ichak block. She was collecting clothes which she had kept for drying in the courtyard of her house. At that time raining had just started. She was also brought to block hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Both incidents took place around 12:30 p.m. within a gap of 5 minutes. After getting information village local body members along with block officials and police officials reached to the hospital where the block officials agreed to give compensation amount as per rule to the family of the deceased. later police sent both the dead bodies to Sadar Hospital, Hazaribagh, for postmortem.
