A 12 – year – old school boy died and two others received severe burn injuries after they were struck by lightning near school premises at Balgo village under Tisri Police Station area on Tuesday afternoon. The incident took place at around 2: 15 pm when all the trios were about to reach their school after having lunch.
The deceased has been identified as Laxman Turi (12) and the victims include Ritik Murmu and Ashish Murmu. All are said to be the residents of Balgo village.
“All the three students were returning to their school after taking lunch. But soon before they could reach their school premises, they stuck due to heavy rain and chose to stand before a tree. Meanwhile, incessant lightning struck the students, killing one of them on the spot,” a villager Kartik Murmu, told the Pioneer adding that the incident had occurred just about few meters from the school building.
