A legal literacy camp was held on Sunday at Kanda Ghatee which has a great notoriety for highway robbery and snatching cases. Only some weeks ago a shoot-out took place in the valley and a robbery was committed on NH 98. The camp was held close to NH 98 in Gandhi Sewa Ashram. Four judicial officers of the civil court Palamu attended it with two lawyers Veena Mishra and KD Pal.
The judicial officers were Uttam Anand (secretary (DlSA) BK Pandey (Munsif) Manoranjan Kumar and Binod Kumar (Judicial magistrate). The camp was held when the Maoists are observing their week long Asthapna Diwas from September 21.
The camp coincided with the passage of a BJP leader and as such there was quite a hectic traffic on the NH 98. Hordes of BJP supporters were waiting for RS Pekar the visiting Home Minister of Chhatisgarh but despite this excitement a committed crowd heard the judicial officers on Sunday.
Keshwar Mehta a 97-year-old freedom fighter attended the camp and like a true Gandhian spoke against alcoholism. If BK Pandey tried to make the gathering aware of the ill effects of witchcraft through his poem Binod Kumar asked the gathering not to block NH or any road in case of any one coming under the wheels. Binod said the best relief is to get compensation and for this come to the court.
Manoranjan Kumar asked the people there to make use of panchayat for resolution of their conflict and dispute as far as practicable. The DlSA secretary Uttam Anand said the camps are held in such places which have remained untouched so far. Uttam said the first camp of this month was held in the village Karma which in police eyes is a difficult place for extremism added a source.
