Going harsh against under age children riding bikes on city roads, Traffic Police have come up with legal action against their parents. In case any underage will be caught without having valid driving license or not wearing helmet, the bikes will be seized besides prosecuting the parents for allowing their under age children to ride bikes.
“A special drive will be launched from Monday where the bike ridden by an underage child without having license with him will be seized. legal action will also be taken against the owner of the bike, be it his or her parents or anyone else. Till then, we were releasing the bikes after making the parents of under age children furnish a bond that the same will not be repeated again by them,” said Traffic SP Sanjay Ranjan Singh.
“Counseling of more than 100 parents have been done so far by traffic police where they have been told about the ill effects of their under age children riding bikes on roads,” Singh added.
Incidentally, three class 10 students – Amit Vishwas, Harsh Kumar Sinha and Aman Kumar Murmu, were killed after their over speeding bike dashed on the divider near the airport. Police said that Murmu, who was riding the bike, lost control over the over speeding bike and dashed on the divider and the nearby electric pole leaving them seriously injured. They were immediately rushed to the hospital and were declared dead during the treatment.
Taking a serious note over the incident, Jharkhand High Court directed Traffic SP to take immediate action to check under age children riding bikes on city roads.
“In addition to that the Road Construction Department has also been directed to put rumble strips on sharp turns and curves so that speed automatically gets decreased on it which will reduce the incidents of accidents due to over speeding. They have also been asked to put speed cautions and signage on roads urging people especially youths to maintain speed limit while riding their bikes,” said the Traffic SP.
The Traffic SP however accepted that it was difficult to catch members of biker’s club as they were expert riders and run away easily taking advantage of crowded roads.
