left parties want Govt to ensure harmony in State

As many as four left parties — CPI, CPI (M), Revolutionary Socialist Party and Forward Block — came together to pressurize the State government for taking action against divisive forces which they alleged has become active in recent times.

The left parties criticized people behind the friction between Adivasis and Christians of the State. The adivasis were up in arms against the Christian community for portraying Merriam in a dress of religious significance for the non-Christian adivasis.

“Political parties are taking advantage of the situation and are trying to disrupt the communal harmony in the State,” said State Secretary CPI (M) GK Bakshi. The left parties have also decided to mobilise parties with similar views on communal harmony and are likely to hold a meeting with such parties towards the later half of September.

Notably, the left parties also discussed the drought situation in the State and demanded the state to be declared drought hit so that those affected get relief from the government.

A joint delegation of the four left parties will meet Chief Minister Hemant Soren to press for their demands.

“We have seen that some areas have been very badly hit so it is imperative for the government to declare the state drought affected,” maintained Bakshi.
