Latehar police recover 19 stolen bikes

After Diwali Chhipadohar police came too heavily upon the gang of stolen bikes as they nabbed 3 people and recovered 19 bikes on Saturday.

SP Latehar Prashant Anand said the three arrested persons are Bipin Bihari Singh, Mishree Singh and Sakun Singh.  These three come from villages falling under Chhipadohar police station.

SP said that five others are at large. All the five have been identified.

One of the five is Sandeep Oraon, who is from Ranchi. Oraon used to pass off these stolen bikes as bonafide ones as he used to arrange registration numbers, insurance cover and anti pollution certificate all fake and bogus said SP.

The stolen bikes were priced far less than the actual price like Rs 20,000 to Rs 35,000.

A buyer of such a bike never bothered for its genuineness as first the buyer made little cash down for the bike which could have cost him 60,000 or 70,000 rupees in open market and second the seller (gang used to hand down papers and documents although all fake and bogus to buyer just to win his confidence and here the gang succeeded in duping the buyer badly, said Anand.

The SP further said, “To treat these buyers as all innocent is difficult as the buyers knew in their hearts that the sale was surreptitious by way of its cheap price nevertheless the buyer succumbed to this temptation.”

Anand said our recovery of bikes led to a situation where buyers about half a dozen turned up before the Chhipadohar police on their own and surrendered their stolen bikes.

The gang has set up youths in villages here who help the gang in the sale of the bikes in remote and cut off areas as many of the 19 stolen bikes so recovered came out from highly Maoist infected villages like Opang, Mundu, Haratu etc

Anand said the modus operandi of the gang is to lift bikes in big cities and then to push it in remote rural populace for its consumption that goes without much of attention and notice.

He said police do not rule out more such recovery in times to come.
