Finally, some respite came for the affected family of Muhammad Majloom, the man hanged to death on a tree at Balumath of latehar district about a month ago. Following a report published on April 16 in The Pioneer narrating the ordeal of two minor daughters of the deceased, who had discontinued attending village school out of fear and pressure, the District Administration on Friday admitted Taraannum and Tabbassum in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) at Balumath.

Deputy Commissioner of latehar Ravi Shankar Shukla said that Taraannum and Tabbassum have been admitted to the KGVB by the Circle Officer of Balumath on Friday. “As the school is residential, the girls should not face any issue over there. The other three daughters are attending an anganwadi centre,” said the DC.

Majloom along with Azad Khan, alias Ibrahim,12, was reportedly subjected to inhuman torture before being killed and hanged from a tree allegedly for cattle trade at Jhabbar village under Balumath police station of latehar district on March 18.

Following the incident that brought attention of the national media, Government, administration and political players to lesser known Balumath, eight people were sent behind bars.
