Two cases of subsidence and gas emission at different locations in Dhanbad were reported on Friday. In one of the incidents reported from Nirsa area a huge chunk of land at government Middle school under Hariajam panchayat of Nirsa block subsided with bang on Friday morning.
Incidentally, no untoward took place as the school was closed . School ground of about 20 feet long and 40 feet wide caved in due to large scale illegal coal mining in the area. The area happens to be part of the Eastern Coalfield Limited.
In another incident part of North Tisra coal mines subsided and thick smoke started emitting from the area owing a cave in coal mines of the Bharat Coking Coal Limited ( BCCL).
This happens to be the second incident in the same area this month. Team of BCCL officers reached the North Tisra view point and took stock of the situation.
Attempts to fill the area have been initiated with help of heavy mining equipment.
