Land records laced with anomalies: Bandhu Tirkey

Former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi led Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P) has started questioning the State Government’s failure in not paying attention to land records as these have several anomalies.

With the State Assembly election round the corner, addressing a press meet on Sunday JVM General Secretary, Bandhu Tirkey alleged that land records are not safe in the State and there are a large numbers of cases of discrepancies in land records. Land records of 27 villages adjoining Ranchi, Tirkey said, were damaged. “Chief Minister Raghubar Das has been claiming that the government has not touched a single inch of tribal land, but he is duping people as there are a large number of discrepancies in Khatiyan.

For one land there should be one Vanshawali (family pedigree) but there are cases in which three or four Vanshwalis have claimed rights over one piece of land,” he added.

“The Government has been protector of lands since 1956 after abolition of Jamindari Pratha. People of the State are in deep trouble with online land records as it also contains a large number of errors in name, area and more.

There are anomalies in transfer of ownership too as several heirs of land have claimed that the ownership of land was not changed after death of their ancestors,” said Tirkey.

Criticising the State Government for not forming clear and comprehensible land records, Tirkey said that the State Government is deliberately not solving the problem to fulfill its treacherous intentions. “There are a large numbers of cases of Gairmajarua Lands acquired and owned by the private people, including a few at Ranidih Village of Itki Block, where a piece of 25 acre of land was acquired by a man. Several similar cases are there in Ratu Mouza, Pithoria Mouza and many more,” he added.

The State Government had constituted several committees for land reform in the State such as Devashish Gupta Committee, Khandelwal Committee and Rajbala Committee but the Government is yet to provide any insights on the reports of the committees, said Tirkey.

In such kinds of situation poor people are facing problems and losing their land due to deliberate mistakes of the government, he added.
