Lack of toilets a concern in city: Jaiswal

State Urban and Housing Development Minister CP Singh on Sunday visited Karnarth Toli in Chutia area of Ranchi to inspect the prevailing condition of drinking water, ponds, roads and garbage collection.

Singh was accompanied by Aditya Vikram Jaisawal, former secretary of Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee’s (JPCC), who had requested the Minister several times to pay attention to the problems in the area, following which the trip was scheduled.

Singh said that all the existing problems will be addressed at the earliest and fresh underground boring will be done in the area to deal with the prevailing water crisis.

During the inspection, it was noticed that most of the houses in the area did not have toilets and the residents still defecated in the open.

Jaiswal told the Minister that despite the city being announced open defecation free, many people are still forced to defecate in open due to lack of toilets.

“Only BJP workers have been benefitted from the Government’s schemes. Commoners are still suffering in silence, there is a need to pay attention towards this issue,” he said to the minister.

Jaiswal pointed out that monsoon has already arrived but cleanliness is in pitiable condition in the State capital. “There is garbage spilled in every nook and corner of the locality. If the administration does not wake up to the alarming condition then there are high chances that an epidemic disease will breakout. People here had to suffer from Chikungunya and Dengue last year due to the lack of cleanliness,” he said.

Later in the day, Jaiswal along with Congress party workers sprayed bleaching powder in the area. He appealed people to regularly spray bleaching powder in the area during the rainy season. He also said that the drive will run in every ward of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC). After Chutia, the team moved to Hindpirhi area where bleaching powder was sprayed near Moti Masjid. “This drive will be conducted in every colony throughout the monsoon,” Jaiswal said.
