lack of awareness and dearth of finance usually leads to death due to cancer in Jharkhand. Although doctors try hard to disseminate the information among the people that cancer is no longer a sentence to death but the message seem to have failed to bring any change in the mindset of the people.
Oncologist Dr Dhiraj Sinha who has been consistently making efforts in generating awareness among the people from past five years said, “I have been organising camps, distributing write ups across the state from past five years. No drastic change has been witnessed in this direction.”
looking at the weak financial background of the people Abdur Razaqque Ansari Memorial Weavers (ARAMW) Hospital has opened a special hospital for those cancer patients who belong to economically vulnerable groups. In this hospital the patients are provided free treatment butirony that due to lack of awareness among the people the hospital fails to gain popularity.
Official of ARAMW hospital Javed Akthar said, “We are leaving no stone unturned in making state free from the clutches of cancer. For the same we have opened a special hospital too where one can get free treatment from the country’s best oncologists but irony is that in past couple of month hardly ten patients have step in the hospital.” He further added that to make the hospital popular among the rural people camps will be organised in the coming days.
State Health Minister Rajendra Prasad showing his grieve over the scenario said, “I want to make Jharkhand cancer free and has decided to organise camps all across the State on the occasion of
World Cancer Day.”
He further added, “To equip Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) super specialty ward with modern technology equipments will be imported from USA. Within a couple of months it is expected that the ward will have all the modern equipment.”
