Municipal labour strike is posing a big hurdle in carrying out cleanliness task in all the 22 wards taken up by the Essel Infra recently. looking at the inconvenience of the city residents, Deputy Mayor, Sanjiv Vijayawargia will conduct a meeting with the labour representatives on Monday. All these labourers have been demanding timely payment of salaries.
“The matter will be sorted out at the earliest as we are familiar with city residents’ problem. Few representatives have been called for a meeting. However, the rules set cannot be violated. Only after meeting the final decision will be taken,” said, the Deputy Mayor.
Workers with their families held demonstration outside the RMC garbage dumping yards to mark the protest. A worker, requesting anonymity, said that they have not received the payments due to some technical problem for last three months. “Officers are only giving assurance to us,” he complained.
Notably Urban Development Minister CP Singh has instructed the company to take up the cleaning task in all the 55 wards on or before March 31. However, so far only 22 wards have been covered by the company. “At present, we do not have sufficient staff. Due to fund crunch, we had to remove some labourers from the work. However, the company is trying that the cleanliness work is carried out smoothly without any glitches,” said Manager of Essel Infra Arun Kumar.
Showing disgrace on the present status of solid waste management, a city resident of Morabadi, Asha Mehta, said, “This has become a regular matter now. After promising green and clean city to the public, the cleanliness work is again back to square one. In a week, only twice, cleaning staffs comes to our colony and all the residents are forced to dump the garbage here and there.” Recently, MSW Safai workers who manages the cleanliness task in other wards too created ruckus and was on strike for long.
