The surrender policy adopted by the State Government seems to be slowly bearing fruit as the district police managed to convince a member of notorious Kundan Pahan squad of CPI (Maoist) to shun the ideology and take strides towards mainstream society.

Ramesh Pramanik, a member of Pahan’s unit, on aturday surrendered in front of Ranchi Police and is said to be among the members who kidnapped and killed Special Branch Inspector Francis Induwar. While accepting the safe corridor to the mainstream society, Pramanik elicited reasons for hacking the slain Special Branch Officer to death. Pramanik, a matriculate, is a resident of Dugirdih under Tamar police station.

“I was among the team that had kidnapped Induwar. Initially, we wanted to release Induwar but considering the information which he had collected we decided to kill him,” revealed Pramanik.

Induwar was kidnapped September 30, 2009 from Hembrom Bazaar in Khunti was subsequently hacked to death after a few days in October. Pramanik, had joined Pahan’s squad in 2004 and he was made a member of Krantikari Kisan Committee. As a member of the squad he took keen interest in expanding the organization thus becoming an integral part of Kundan Pahan’s squad. Pramanik was first caught in 2008 and was sent to jail but again joined the banned terror outfit after nine months’ imprisonment.

“Government’s surrender policy besides deteriorating economic condition of the family made me shun the group,” said Pramanik. Notably, the surrendered naxalite disclosed that Pahan’s squad comprises around 200 persons, including 12 women. “The strength keeps changing,” tersely put Pramanik.

The surrender made by the member of Pahan’s group is said to be one ofthe biggest achievements since the state government’s surrender policy came into existence. The 33-year old former aide of Pahan was given around Rs 50,000 for shunning the path of leftwing extremism. later, SSP Bhim Sen Tuti praised the government’s surrender policy and termed it to be in interest of those who wish to shun the path of voilence and lead a normal life.

“He (Pramanik) came under the influence of police and surrendered,” said the SSP.
