Amidst protest from students of BBA (Bachelors in Business Administration) and BCA (Bachelors of Computer Application) over the degree row at Jamshedpur Women’s College, the Vice-chancellor of Kolhan University, RPP Singh met the students and clarified the university’s stand on Wednesday.

However, after heated arguments and discussions, students of the Jamshedpur Women’s College agreed to accept a B.Com in Business Administration degree and not a BBA degree by the University. The students of BBA and BCA have been protesting about the irregularities in prospectus for the past one week. The students went to the university office and also staged a dharna in front of the college gate. Their complaint was that students of BBA would get a BCom degree instead of BBA.

Though the principal had assured the students that she would take step to solve the issue but students after meeting the vice-chancellor found out that the college should have never printed ‘BBA’ on the admission prospectus which created the whole confusion. The Vice-Chancellor, on the directive of the Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, arrived at the college and convened a meeting. Students raised slogans against the VC but Singh pacified the agitating protesters.

Considering the deteriorating situation, the SDO Dhalbhum Prem Ranjan and the local police were rushed to the campus. The VC explained students about the rules and regulations of the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi. He clarified that the university or the college could not offer a BBA or BCA degree because they did have approval from the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). He admitted that the prospectus of the college erroneously mentioned that the students would be given degree in BBA. The VC also said to withdraw all prospectus immediately.

“We have clarified that the students will get a B.Com in Business Administration degree and B.Sc in Computer Application degree which will be of equal importance,” said Singh. Prior to this, Singh who reached the Jamshedpur Women’s College at about 10 am in the morning faced ire of the students. He was blocked by the students protesting outside. later, the ladies police personnel had to escort the VC so for him to leave the campus.
