Kolhan University has asked the colleges to submit their academic developmental plans to the university for infrastructural development under the National Higher Education Mission or the Rashtriya Uchhatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) launched in 2013 by the Central Government. Colleges in Kolhan University have received letters recently asking them to submit their developmental plans to improve the status of higher education in Kolhan.
It may be mentioned that RUSA was launched by the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development under the 12th five year plan. The objective of launching the five year plan was to improve the overall quality of existing state institutions and promote an atmosphere for research and innovation and high quality education in rural, semi-urban and urban areas.
“We have asked the colleges to submit their proposals within a week and we expect that they will think of better ways of improving the infrastructure in colleges to boost higher education irrespective of whether they are in compliance with the UGC Act,” said a senior official.
Each college under the development plan will receive a development grant up to Rs2 crore that would help the college administration change the existing almost non-functional structure in colleges. The Kolhan University have asked the colleges to submit their proposals this year in order to receive the disbursement as soon as possible.
“RUSA is an excellent opportunity to the state universities to upgrade educational and research ambience of infrastructure, knowledgeresources and skill development expertise to produce international quality manpower. It should also be underscored that the upgraded colleges and universities would be mentored for high-quality research outputs with fund-associated expertise through RUSA,” said a senior official.
A professor of the city based college said apart from hostel provision of other basic facilities such as toilets, was also a major concerns. They are hopeful with the allotment of fund situation will improve.
