The Election Commission has raised curtains over Kolebira bypoll by declaring dates to fill the lone vacancy in the Jharkhand Assembly.
As per the schedule announced on Thursday voting would take place on December 20 while counting of votes is to take place on December 23.
The seat had fallen vacant after sitting MLA Enosh Ekka was found guilty of murdering a para teacher and got convicted by a Simdega court that awarded him life imprisonment on July 31 this year. Ekka subsequently lost the membership of the House.
Party of Enosh Ekka, the Jharkhand Party, has already announced that it will field Menon Ekka, his wife, as the party candidate for the by-poll over the seat.
With the BJP also eyeing for the seat now it would have to be seen whether the budding ‘grand alliance’ of the Congress, JMM, RJD and the Left in the State backs the Jharkhand Party candidate or goes for their own candidate.
