Koda likely to surrender today

Former Chief Minister Madhu Koda, accused in the multi-crore money laundering case, may surrender on Thursday at the lower court after completion of his interim bail period.

Koda was freed by Jharkhand High Court on April 17 for three weeks, as his mother was ill and admitted in Apollo Hospital.

“There is some confusion over calculation of day one and whether the bail period will be counted from April 18 or 19. As he was released after 1 pm on April 18, it is not clear whether that day should be counted or not,” said Koda’s advocate Bishwajeet Mukherjee. “The final decision will be taken after discussing with Koda, after he comes back tonight,” he added.

Mukherjee made it clear that Koda does not want to play with the law and is bound to comply with the court’s order. He will press his point before the court.

Meanwhile, Koda’s mother has been shifted to Fortis Hospital in Delhi after her health deteriorated a couple of days ago. “later, depending on her condition, a plea for extension of bail will be pressed in court. But our priority is to comply with the high court’s order first,” he added. Koda was released from Birsa Munda Central Jail on April 18 after three and a half years. The Jharkhand High Court had granted interim bail to Koda in a graft case related to Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification scheme in Palamau and Dumka. Koda, along with his former colleagues, is accused in the multi-crore money laundering cases during his chief ministerial tenure from 2006-2008.
