Santosh Kumar, a fitter in the Barwadeeh railway junction’s carriage and wagon section, was bluntly done to death by an iron hammer on Thursday morning between platform 2 and 3 of the Barwadeeh railway junction by a section of passengers of Bhopal Howrah express train on Thursday December 1.
The hammer belonged to the fitter who was on duty and attending the Bhopal Howrah express train when this assault on him took place by the group of passengers travelling in S 2 reserved non ac coach of this express train. The deceased hailed from Nawada district in Bihar. Sources said these half a dozen passengers in S 2 coach were harassing lady passengers who when this train reached Barwadeeh railway station made a protest but sources said the RPF did not take this incident seriously which further emboldened these passengers.
Sources said the fitter carrying iron hammer was on duty checking bogies and who for lady passengers safety intervened when one of these passengers snatched Santosh Kumar’s iron hammer and hit him the hardest way leading to his death. Daltonganj railway station Special Train Ticket Examiner Balmukund Pandey when asked for detail confirmed this episode which led to the fatality of Santosh whose own iron hammer was used by one of the passengers to hit him.
Pandey said this group of passengers then got into different bogies of Dn Bhopal Howrah express train to hide their offence. Bhopal Howarah express train moved on for its onward journey. One railway source said three passengers alleged to have teased lady passengers and one who hit the fitter to death has been detained by the police at Tori railway station.

The entire railway fraternity stands with the family in this hour of extreme tragedy’ Daltonganj railway station superintendent AK Tiwary said the body was brought down here in Daltonganj railway station by a goods train for postmortem in the sadar hospital Daltonganj.
