Nilamber Pitamber university’s contract software engineer Sammi Kumar who was kidnapped on Garhwa Shahpur Road on the night of Monday enroute to Daltonganj resurfaced at Semra under Chainpur police station on Tuesday.
He looked in pains and distraught as his captors assaulted him. His captors pulled his throat muscles too hard to exert pressure on him for ransom which was Rs 2 crore in the beginning but it went sliding down from Rs 2 crore to 1 crore to 5 lakh only to settle with Rs 20,000.
Sammi Kumar said his captors blindfolded him and took him down to an ATM centre, where his captors made him to withdraw Rs 14,000 from his account, which they took immediately and thereafter his captors grabbed another Rs 6,000 that Sammi Kumar said he had in his pocket. The victim said the kidnappers took away his two cell phones, three ATM cards, one credit card, PAN card and Aadhar card. Narrating his ordeal he said the kidnappers had warned him not to tell this incident to anyone even the police. He said he was made to sit on a bike, which left him blindfolded and hands tied at Semra around 6.30 in the morning. SP Palamu Indrajeet Mahatha said there is no Maoist angle behind the incident. He said police are on the job right from the night of Monday/Tuesday when this incident was reported to him by one of his colleagues who work in the NP university.
The SP said police launched a massive manhunt at night and even with the help of CCTV footage at Sadik Manzil Chowk police traced a bolero, in which four criminals had taken away the man. Sammi Kumar is an engineer of Universal Solution Technology (UST) Delhi and does work in NPU’s computer centre on contract.
