Khunti SDM (IAS), Syed Riyaz Ahmed has been arrested by the Khunti police after interrogation in the sexual harassment case of an IIT student. Khunti SP Aman Kumar said that a case of sexual harassment has been registered, after which the police arrested the SDM.
According to the complaint on the night of July 1, Ahmad had invited IIT students for a party at his residence. Where everyone had food and drinks, in which drinks were also consumed. After that the victim and the SDO separated for some time. On the morning of July 2, at around six o'clock, he kissed the victim and started trying to move forward. During this, the student ran away from there and along with her companions came out of the SDO residence. On the complaint of the victim in the Khunti Mahila Police Station late on July 4, a case number 14/22 has been registered under sections 354(A) and 509 IPC.
The student is originally from Himachal Pradesh and is studying at IIT. For the last 20 days, 20 students and girls have come to Khunti for training. According to the information, the district administration had called the students for training regarding some programme.
It may be mentioned here that the wife of Khunti SDM Syed Riyaz Ahmed is a resident of Dhanbad, Jharkhand. Presently he is working as SDM in Korba district of Chhattisgarh. Ahmed, a 2018 batch IAS officer, hails from Nashik, Maharashtra. Syed Riyaz Ahmed, who secured the 261st rank in the fifth attempt, became an IAS after passing all the three stages of the examination.
Riyaz stood second in the Maharashtra Government's Forest Department examination after failing in the UPSC examination continuously. After becoming a Range Forest Officer, Riyaz again engaged in UPSC preparations and achieved success in the fifth attempt.
