Residents of National Games Housing Complex (NGHC) at Khelgaon, who were reeling under sever water crisis for over two and a half months due to the apathetic attitude of Government authorities, breathe a sigh of relief as they have started getting regular supply of water. Residents had been claiming earlier of not getting a single facility, including water, as promised earlier by the builder while purchasing the flats by spending their hard earned money.“There is definitely a sea change, after we demonstrated a protest and blocked the entrance of the society, especially in water supply which was our prime cause of concern,” said a resident, requesting anonymity. Besides water supply, street lights were also installed , added the resident.
According to the resident, the company seems to have started taking notice of the day to day problems of the residents as waterlogging was corrected within two days after the protest. He, however, said that they need to be more united in order to grab their rights which were quite evident from the small protest by a handful of residents. The major problem, as depicted by them was ill- maintenance of lifts as most of them remained non-functional making it worse for those living beyond the first floor. A 62-year-old Professor, on June 15, had also had a close shave when he entered an empty lift from the first floor hitting hardly on the ground floor.
The company however, claimed that the matter will be resolved soon as work order for Annual maintenance contract (AMC) for the lift has been prepared and are waiting for the society to get it legally registered.“All the problems as pointed out by the residents have been removed after we pursued the matter to the PHED department. After several round of pursuance, they have regularized the supply of water to our centralized sump located near Birsa Munda Central Jail,” said AGM of Nagarjuna Construction Company Sanjay Singh.
Referring to the ill maintenance of lifts in the complex, Singh cleared that it could only be maintained after the society gets registered as they are ready with the work order for AMC in this regard. “let the society get registered and we will hand over the maintenance of the complex to it,” said Singh.Singh, however, asserted that people also need to cooperate with the company as there was already short supply of water right from Booty water reservoir. He also appealed the residents to avoid wastage of water in the activities like gardening and car washing. The resident had been facing water crisis in their apartments for the last several weeks helplessly resorting to packaged drinking water even for bathing purposes. The construction company, however, maintained that other problems were temporary which could be fixed only after the society takes over the maintenance of the housing complex.
