Noticing the outstanding academic performances of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) students, Chief Minister (CM) Hemant Soren has requested Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister MM Pallam Raju to increase the number of such State board girl’s schools. Presently, there is one such school in every block but the Government is willing to increase it to two.
“Since the students population is increasing in Kasturba Gandhi schools, we seek to increase their numbers which in turn would contribute to female literacy,” said Soren during the Foundation Day Ceremony of Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC). Top achievers of 2012-13 session including toppers of matriculation and intermediate examinations followed by honouring best school, college and district producing maximum first division matric and inter passouts were felicitated in the programme.
This was for the first time ever that a district and its Deputy Commissioner (DC), former DC and District Education Officer was felicitated. Among the best school and college, Netarhat Residential School and St Xavier’s College Principals were felicitated. Hazaribagh Former DC Manish Ranjan, DC Sunil Kumar and DEO Rajkumar Prasad Singh were honoured for best achiever in the districts.
The CM further added, “The Union HRD Minister has agreed our request to increase State boys hostel infrastructure at every block.” He also informed that the functioning of NCC unit related to the State Sports department till date will now be done by State Education department. Hearing the news, an NCC Officer said, “For our NCC cadets it would create a better coordination in their academics and training if state education department looks into their affairs.”
Notably, the decision was taken by CM after a discussion held with senior Army officials on August 31. CM said, “Students in their educational career will be able to move in a disciplined manner if NCC is taught in all the schools.” CM, State HRD Minister Geetashree Oraon as Chief Guests here along with JAC Chairperson Dr Anand Bhusan felt the need to provide a support system to the science stream students of intermediate level affiliated to JAC as the overall result of this particular subject has been below fifty percent for past many years.
Stressing on the need to strengthen the educational system on the constant poor performance of intermediate science students, Geetashree said, “We do not lack scientific brains especially in the rural areas. Coaching centres can be established so that such children come forward and clear their doubts.” After, having a council song and flag, JAC is mulling to have a full fledged information technology system soon.
