JVM submits documents, list of witnesses in Speaker's court

Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) has submitted host of documents and list of its witnesses before the Speaker’s court on Friday in the connection of defection case of six of its former MlAs. The documents are in the support of its plea seeking disqualification of the legislators who have crossed over to the BJP just after Assembly poll results early this year.

The documents submitted before the court include newspaper cuttings, defection case filed by JVM chief Babulal Marandi after the MlAs crossed over, joint letter of the six legislators namely Navin Jaiswal, Randhir Singh, Ganesh Ganjhu, Janki Prasad Yadav, Alok Chaurasia and Amar Kumar Bauri addressed to the Speaker that were later forwarded to BJP State president Ravindra Rai.

“We have also given resignation letter of then JVM general secretary Pravin Singh from the party. The MlAs had claimed that the meeting about ‘merging’ the JVM into the BJP was taken in that very meeting. While, our party constitution clearly says that any general secretary cannot head such meeting without getting authorised to do so by the party president. Thus any such meeting stands null and void,” said a party functionary. Besides, the papers related to acceptance of Pravin Singh’s resignation from the JVM and communications taken place from the party to Navin Jaiswal, Ganesh Ganjhu, Amar Kumar Bauri and Alok Chaurasia have also been attached in the support of the party’s claims that the defection from the party to the BJP is invalid in the eyes of the Schedule-10 of the Constitution.

The party has also handed over list of eight witnesses to the Speaker’s court. The list carries names of JVM chief Babulal Marandi, principal general secretary Pradeep Yadav, vice president Saba Ahmad, treasurer KK Poddar, MlA Prakash Ram along with different party functionaries Sunil Sahu, Sampati Devi and Dilip Mishra.

It is learnt that second party have also submitted documents in support of their claims that say that the defection was legitimate and as per the Constitutional provisions. Six MlAs had dejected the JVM since the BJP-led coalition fell short of full majority after the polls. Two of them later went on becoming Ministers in the Raghubar Das Government.
