JVM set for post-mortem of rout today

With the adventure of the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) going horribly wrong the party is set for a critical analysis post-poll. Currently in Giridih, JVM chief Babulal Marandi is scheduled to return Ranchi on Tuesday and after that a deliberation and analysis would take place.

Party sources said that the introspection may also result in some heads rolling and certain changes may also take place at top level. “The responsibility would be fixed for the poll drubbings. What were the factors that went against us would be analysed. Certain changes would also take place at the top,” said a leader.

Indications are that the party is facing resentment against the leadership over first the decision to contest all 14 seats and also candidates’ selection. Some leaders are said to be angry blaming the party for not extending desired level of support to win the polls.

“Some candidates have no association with locals and the constituency. They just came from Delhi or somewhere else and got the ticket. How such people were shown faith and the party expected them to win,” said a party general secretary.

Besides the criticism from all round the Babulal Marandi-led party got another jolt when its seasoned leader and sitting MlA from Bokaro Samresh Singh announced that he would not contest any election in future. Samresh Singh was fielded by the JVM from Dhanbad lok Sabha constituency where he lost badly.

Incidentally, Samresh had questioned Babulal Marandi’s decision to contest the elections at the last moment which was contrary to party’s earlier stand. “His loss is a big blow to the party. This has dented JVM’s prospect in the forthcoming elections severely. It is more worrying when the Assembly elections are just few months ago,” said the general secretary.
