Going against its earlier stand, the JVM has approached the Speaker for disqualifying its four MlAs who parted their way and went to the BJP’s way few days ago. Speaker Shashank Shekhar Bhokta said that the members under the anti-defection law would be given a hearing on August 4.
“JVM leader Pradeep Yadav has written to me to act against four MlAs namely Samresh Singh (Bokaro), Nirbhay Shahabadi (Giridih), Jayprakash Bhokta (Simaria) and Chandrika Mahtha (Jamua) under anti-defection law for joining the BJP. I have also received letter from party president Babulal Marandi in this regard. I have given time to all the four MlAs to present their stand in writing on August 4 before me,” ruled the Speaker.
He also added that till the matter is settled the MlAs may participate in the proceedings of the House but cannot vote on any division. Nevertheless another JVM MlA Phulchand Mandal of Sindri joined the saffron party on Saturday.
The party has 11 members in the House and as per the provisions of the Anti-defection law at least 2/3 ie eight, members are required to escape from disqualification.
