As many as 70 out of 186 students haling from one of the best school of Ranchi Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali who passed out their Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12th examination on May 29 have scored ‘low marks’ in Computer Science (CS), an optional subject. This ‘low marking’ according to them is likely to affect their selection in top engineering institutes through IIT-JEE Main.
These students want the CBSE body to re-evaluate their CS papers at the earliest but the latter seems to turn “deaf” on solving the problem. CBSE norms involve the re-checking or re-evaluation of subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Economics, Biology, Business Studies and Accounts.
“I scored about 90 marks in all the subjects except CS and Physics. Since there is a provision for rechecking of Physics we are tension free. But, the same needs to be done for CS because in IITJEE result the total percentage of class 12th is calculated for getting admission into a premiere engineering institution. Unfortunately, if the CBSE does not listen to our woes our JEE main ranking will drop by thousands. I am not ready to accept this failure as I have worked hard to pass this examination,” said Komal Gupta who scored 95 percentage.
Similarly Kislay, another student suffering with the same problem said that they have tried to approach the CBSE Patna regional officers through phone calls and e-mails but have failed to get any response. Sources maintained that the Principal AK Singh is also not taking any initiative to cure the pain of these sufferers.
“Students are ready to pay the amount for re-evaluation. All they want is that CBSE considers Computer Science as a subject for this re-evaluation. We never expected our meritorious students to get less marks. It is almost impossible that majority of our students of this cadre have secured around 80 or 70 marks who always got more than 95 marks. CBSE should take immediate steps,” a teaching staff said on the condition of anonymity.
