After tasting a humiliating defeat in the Lok Sabha polls, former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi-led Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P) is busy chalking out plans for the upcoming Assembly elections. On Sunday, the who’s who of the party met for a brainstorming session to spot the lacunas that led to their defeat.

JVM-P was a part of the Grand Alliance during the Lok Sabha polls. The party lost in both the seats it contested in the general elections. Marandi also suffered a humiliating defeat in Koderma.

JVM-P Spokesperson, Sunita Singh, said that the lack of coordination between workers of Grand Alliance members was one of the major reasons for the defeat. “The State Assembly election is round the corner and we still don’t know if we will go to polls alone or as a part of an alliance. We need a well coordinated team to fight the BJP,” she added.

Singh said that the party had only focused on men and ignored women during the general elections but if party wants to win election, then it will have to give equal importance to women. “The party needs to understand that the votes of women are equally important,” she said.

The Mahanagar Unit of the party decided during the meeting that it has good hold in Hatia State Assembly seat, so it will field a candidate for the seat during the assembly polls.

“We know that Babulal Marandi is most accepted leader in Jharkhand and people like him. But we need to strengthen our base at the booth level in order to win elections,” said Singh.

Addressing the gathering, JVM (P) Ranchi Mahanagar Unit President Sunil Gupta said that the party has been raising common people’s issues since its inception. “The party will submit a memorandum to senior officials regarding awful condition of water and electricity supply in the city. If the condition does not improve, then the party will gherao electricity office to streamline drinking water and electricity supply,” he added.
