Candidates from JVM (P) and BSP on Wednesday filed nominations here in Daltonganj for the Palamu lok Sabha seat. The district public relation officer DN Bhaduri gave this information. Nominations can be filed till March 22.
The JVM (P) has fielded Ghuram Ram (46) as its candidate while BSP has fielded Rampati Ranjan (58) as its candidate. Ghuram Ram is a former MP of Palamu. Ranjan is trying his luck again.
The nominations were filed without any chaos or confusion. Police arrangement was unobstructive. However, the Palamu administration has gone overboard to roll out a carpet for the candidate and his/her proposer to walk on it to reach the nomination office.
However, the administration has been discreet not to roll out any red carpet. The carpet is of green colour. Reason given for its rolling out in the passage that reaches the chamber of the returning officer is that green colour is soothing and it covers the roughness of the passage as the administration has barricaded a wide road to avoid any congestion or jam like situation in the collectorate.
SK Verma the SDO Sadar said the carpet rolling out has been done to promote more good sense at this time.Sources said the Election Commission of India is quite strict with its directives and this has given the officers a leeway to exercise their own whims. Three journalists present in the chamber of the returning officer on Wednesday, when JVM (P) candidate was filing his nomination, were asked politely but firmly by the returning officer KN Jha to move out of the chamber when in fact one of the three journalists was asked by the ADM law & Order as to why the journalist was outside and not in the chamber for coverage of the nomination. The three journalists moved out of the chamber of the returning officer without uttering or showing any word or gesture so as to be interpreted as any contesting of the asking of the returning officer for moving out.
