Tata Steel’s 100 per cent subsidiary, Jusco, is busy giving final touches to its beautification work on major roads as part of its Rs18 crore plan to ease traffic snarl. The company is gearing up to complete the work before March 3, the day celebrated as Founder’s Day in memory of JN Tata.

The road widening and beautification work is underway at Subernarekha link Road (between Jubilee Park-Mango bridge),  Bistupur Main Road (from Voltas Building-Tata Steel powerhouse), Sakchi Boulevard Road (from Circuit House- Bistupur GPO),  Kharkhai link Road (from Gopal Maidan-Adityapur bridge), N-Road (from Bistupur traffic signal-Kharkhai sewage treatment plant).

Jusco has launched the project on a large scale. Widening will not only decongest these roads but also enable creation of dividers and footpaths to improve traffic safety.

After the Tata Steel board approved plans to widen 22 roads of the steel city’s roads over the next two years, Jusco has begun the large-scale implementation of the project. Along with decongesting these roads, widening will also enable creation of dividers and footpaths to improve traffic safety. Work has commenced on seven of these 22 roads.

“Our target is March 3 for completion of Sakchi Boulevard Road while remaining roads will be completed by May. The reason for according top priority to Sakchi Boulevard Road stretch is due to its importance in view of the Founder’s Day celebration,” said an official of engineering and planning department of Jusco.  Moreover, lED lights are being installed to increase visibility in the city.

“This initiative will increase brightness on the roads with the energy efficient and environmentally friendly lED lights,” said Jusco official. With innovative technology being used for manufacturing lED, it brings down the energy consumption by over 54 per cent as compared to the conventional lights.

It is estimated that almost 20 per cent of a town’s electricity consumption can be attributed to street lighting hence this is a great energy saver which is of national interest. With Jusco’s plan for rapid lED conversion in the city, Jamshedpur soon will have a magnificent and environment friendly city lighting with reduced energy consumption.
