After a gap of about 3-4 months, jumbos are back on rampage in Hazaribagh. Since last 2-3 days a herd of jumbos which has entered in the Churchu block of the district has damaged houses, properties and standing crops of the villagers.

On Thursday-Friday night the herd entered in Khurandih village of Churchu block. The worst affected area of the village was Karmali Tola. Here the jumbos damaged the house of Manoj Karmali and destroyed his bike and TV set. The herd attacked on other houses of the Tola too and damaged the gates, boundary walls etc. of several houses. The residents of Karmali Tola fled away from their houses to save their lives.

The jumbos were in Aango forest of Churchu block this morning which is close to Khurandih village so the villagers are in panic. When police and forest officials reached there with village local body members the villagers started narrating the damage done by the herd in which three baby elephants are included.

The Government officers and village local body members prepared a list of loss of household and agricultural properties of the affected villagers and assured them that they will get compensation amount from the Government very soon.

The villagers were angry on officials of forest department as they have not made any alternative arrangement yet and once again a herd of jumbos entered into their area within 3-4 months. The ranger of that area said that the herd is leaving the Aango forest area and is moving towards Dahwa and Gurhet forests.
