The onset of monsoon not only brings relief from heat but also triggers favorable chances for mosquito breeding. Taking into consideration the recent increase in cases of dengue in Jamshedpur, the preparedness at capital city for dengue becomes one of a major concerns for the authorities.
As per the official record, a total of 412 positive dengue cases were recorded in the State in 2016.
The department of health, medical education and family welfare said that they have already issued important instruction to the concerned authorities to start taking measures against dengue and other vector borne diseases. In order to spread awareness for dengue and other mosquito borne diseases, July month will be observed as ‘anti-dengue Month’.
“We have decided to observe this July as ‘Dengue Month’. We will be reaching schools, colleges and various public spaces in order to spread awareness.
Apart from earlier distribution of mosquito nets, it is expected that around 50-60 lakh more mosquito nets will be given by the Central government by the end of this month to be distributed amongst the common public,” said Dr. Ramesh Prasad, nodal officer, State Malaria Control Cell and National Integrated Disease Surveillance program (IDSP)
When asked about the preparedness about dengue at the premier state owned hospital, RIMS Director Dr. Bl Sherwal said “In Ranchi, the cases of Dengue are not very frequent, especially at this time. But then, we have separate wards for dengue with preliminary treatment facility. Currently we have space for around 30 patients here.”
He further added that they are also planning for organising awareness campaigns as this disease can be prevented with proper care and precautions.
