JUIDCO to speed up new flyovers' process

Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company (JUIDCO) appears to have fastened the belt for flying over Kantatoli and Ratu Road-Harmu Road for the third time. JUIDCO officials and other stakeholders including the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) sat on Thursday to planning speedy disposal of related works like land acquisition others even before any bidder has come forward to take responsibility of construction of flyovers-duo.

“We met today to discuss how to speed up related processes including land acquisition, getting the route cleared and dismantling public utility establishments and their displacement among others,” said Urban Development and Housing Department Principal Secretary and JUIDCO Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) Arun Kumar Singh after meeting concluded on Thursday. Municipal Commissioner Prashant Kumar was also present in the meeting apart from officials of Urban Development and Housing Department.

It was for the third time, that JUIDCO invited bidders in the last week of December for the construction of two flyovers after two such failed attempts during previous months. The fresh tenders would be opened on January 19, when JUIDCO expects at least one company to be chosen for construction of those flyovers, which are expected to offload huge traffic burden from the routes they cover once constructed. No bidder could appear in previous tendering processes ‘due to so many reasons including primarily land acquisition related problems amidst CNT Acts’, said a source from the RMC.

Though Singh didn’t divulge much about the meeting, sources said that the Department was under tremendous pressure to get at least one company which agrees to construct two flyovers. One among them is to be constructed from some distance behind Kantatoli on Kokar-Kantatoli Chowk to Khadgarha measuring little over 900 meters. However, another flyover which is to be constructed from lPN Shahdeo Chowk, popularly known as Hot-lips Chowk to Harmu bridge through Harmu Bypass would measure around three Kilometers.

The estimated cost of both the flyovers is around `157 Crores with additional cost of over `300 Crores on land acquisition, in which some 60 Crores of rupees have already been transferred by Urban Development and Housing Department.
