Jubiliation rules city as JMM celebrates

Jubilation ruled the city as JMM activists celebrated the formation of the new Government. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren, son of the party chief Shibu Soren, was sworn in as Jharkhand’s ninth Chief Minister on Saturday.

The Central rule was imposed on January 18 after the JMM withdrew support to the BJP-led Government under Arjun Munda on January 8.  JMM activists distributed sweets and smeared vermilion on each other’s faces and broke into dancing to the beat of drums after Soren was sworn in.

Similar scenes were witnessed at Jugsalai, Burmamines, Sakchi, Bistupur and Sidhgora with party workers distributing sweets and bursting crackers.

The office of JMM was gripped with celebrations as party activists hit streets and distributed sweets to people. They shouted ‘Hemant Soren zindabad’ and ‘JMM zindabad’. There was a similar scene at the nearby office of Congress and RJD.

“It’s a historic moment for us and we want to thank Hemant for his good works that resulted him with crowning of CM. We want to celebrate every moment of it,” said a jubilant Ramesh Hansda a senior leader of JMM. He went on to add that the charisma of Soren did wonders for the JMM and Congress alliance.

“It is the popularity of Hemant that the party has decided to again bestow him the reins of the State. We are confident that the State will further flourish again under his guidance,” said Sunil Mahato of JMM.

Meanwhile branding the JMM-Congress-RJD coalition government as “anti-Jharkhand and remote controlled Government”, the Jharkhand Disom Party (JDP) torched effigies of the Government across the state.

However, the Jharkhand unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) observed as “Dhikaar Divas” on Sunday condemning the action. Expressing shock over the political alliance between Congress and JMM Anil Modi said that the party observed ‘Condemnation Day’ in the state. He said that the party workers would also sport black badges during Confidence Motion.

He also alleged that the move to form a Government by JMM and Congress was based on manipulations and money power and such a Government is being formed for personal gains only.

Another party, the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik, observed the day as “Black Day”. A leader noted that Government by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Congress was based on manipulations and money power and such a government could not serve the people of the state.
