The new faces in the 81-member Assembly are all set to bring newness in approach and attitude replacing veterans from the House. As many as 34 newly-elected MlAs are anxiously waiting for the Assembly to commence as they see it as the supreme place to get promises translated into action.
With their task cut out the first time elected MlAs have started feeling the change in responsibility and role in just about 48-hours after winning from their constituencies. Although barely a few hours old, the elected representatives have began taking pulse of the people’s aspirations and commensurate pressure that appears more to be self-exerted.
“Earlier we used to assess works done by people’s representatives but now our work is going to be analysed by people. Since I have been active in social life the opportunity I have been bestowed with by the people will help me in raising issues related to common man and ensure solution as now I will exercise greater degree of power that comes with the post,” said Gumla MlA Shivshankar Oraon.
Although the first time elected MlAs may not appear to be well versed with the functioning of the Assembly they are exhibiting a great deal of confidence needed to put forward people’s agenda on the floor of the House. Making promises come true and keeping public interest above everything is the mantra that will be the starting point of the political career as the people’s representative for the next five-years to say the least.
“We won elections on certain promises and now it is time to fulfill those. We have to face same people everyday so we cannot escape from our responsibility. We have seen that those faces that not will be seen this time are either the people who never went to the field or relied too much on campaigning than work to come back again in the Assembly. People know what we are doing for them so we need to keep them interested in us by raising their cause,” said Jharia MlA Sanjeev Singh.
Notably, the Bhartiya Janta Party dominates the list of new faces with 17 MlAs whereas Jharkhand Mukti Morcha saw six fresh faces getting elected on its ticket and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha managed to salvage some pride with four first-time-elected MlAs. Among other parties, Congress will sit in the opposition with three MlAs elected for the first time and AJSU Party will be on the government’s side with two MlAs belonging to the category whereas CPI-M and Bahujan Samaj Party will be represented by one MlA each in the Assembly.
