JSCA lease violation complaints to be probed: Geete

The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) will be put under scanner for alleged violation of the lease agreement signed with the Heavy Engineering Corporation limited (HEC) for the development of International Sports Complex at Dhurwa and to use the facility for the sole purpose of the development of cricket, which according to the officials of the HEC, is the soul of the agreement.

The enquiry into the alleged violation of the agreement by the JSCA is likely to be instituted as Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprise, Anant Geete, expressed that the complaint received against the cricket association would be investigated. The Union Minister was on a visit to Jharkhand.“Few complaints have reached to me.Those complaints will be investigated and if there is something amiss necessary actions will be taken,” said Geete at Project Building here.

The public sector undertaking had issued eviction notice to the JSCA on July 4 for allegedly using the facility developed on the land owned by the Government of India enterprise for purposes other than promoting cricket. The International Sports Complex houses clubs, restaurants and halls which the HEC alleged is being used for commercial gains by the JSCA.

This apart, the HEC also alleged non-payment of five per cent of the amount generated from ticket sale, not placing HEC’s logo at prominent places at the stadium, violating building bylaws, not awarding membership to the senior functionaries of the company and using the company’s land as parking space without prior consent. The JSCA rejected all the charges and hit back with counter allegations against the CMD of HEC, Avijit

Ghosh, accusing him of seeking free membership of the club and free use of tennis court at the stadium. The CMD, however, rejected all the charges made by the JSCA to counter the notice that seeks them to vacate the premises in one month.“When we are not acknowledging the club then there is no question about membership. What must be understood is that the place was given for the development of cricket and not for commercial use,” said Ghosh.

JSCA president Amitabh Chaudhary could not be contacted to know the cricket association’s position on the notice served by the HEC and their future course of action vis-à-vis the notice. Chaudhary, however, had termed the action on the part of HEC as taking law in their own hands.
