Jharkhand Rai University (JRU) has bagged ASSOCHAM India National Education Excellence Awards 2013 on April 9 for ‘Best Private University for Women Empowerment’. The award was given by Union Human Resource Development Minister MM Pallam Raju to JRU Vice Chancellor Savita Sengar.

JRU was given this award for its commitment in empowering women.

The University runs a scholarship Scheme called ‘Dream Z’ which seeks to provide underprivileged girl students from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds and deep interiors of Jharkhand, full scholarship on their tuition fees.

The programme seeks to uplift these girls through quality education, so that they can make a difference in their own lives and contribute positively to the society at large. Under this scholarship the girls can opt any of the Undergraduate and Post Graduate Degree Programmes offered by Jharkhand Rai University, Ranchi.

This year, under this scheme JRU intends to give skill training to marginalised section girls of various districts of Jharkhand along with Bachelors and Masters Degree courses they are already carrying out.

This would comprise 1500 girls from various districts of Jharkhand to be admitted from upcoming session.  JRU is dedicated to impart free education with around 250 seat limit for such girls every year for its ongoing courses.

JRU Vice Chancellor Dr Savita Sengar told the media persons on Monday, “We have asked Principals of 150 colleges including 20 districts to nominate five girls hailing from Below Poverty level from their institution whom we shall provide education at free of cost.”

This scheme was begun last year wherein 50 girls out of the 250 seat limit were imparted free education. “Our main purpose is to educate a deserving girl residing in the remote part of the state who cannot afford education because of lack of awareness,” added Dr Savita. JRU is mulling to avail these girls with corporate placements as well. These girls would be allotted free residential facilities and spoken English classes also.

It is to be noticed the university had already held four sessions on ‘Woman Guides’ for the slum based urban girls who were explained about the different kinds of laws and preventions ensured to protect crime against women by female cops.
