Pradesh Congress Committee president in Jharkhand, Ajoy Kumar, has sent his resignation taking moral responsibility for the party’s poor show in the State where they won just one of the State’s 14 seats.
“PCC chief has taken moral responsibility of the party’s performance and sent his resignation on May 24. However, we got official information of his resignation today,” said State Congress Media Incharge Rajesh Thakur.
Congress lost in Khunti by 1,400 votes and Lohardaga with 10,000 votes.
Meanwhile, former Ranchi City Congress president Surendra Singh leveled serious allegations against Kumar and demanded his resignation on Monday. Addressing a press meet Singh said that PCC Chief Kumar is the sole person responsible for the dismal performance of the grand old party in the State.
“As Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Centre Government and Raghubar Das led State Government has given us numerous issues to capitalise and ensure victory of the party candidates but due to the poor policies and strategies of the State Chief, the party has got crushing defeat in the election,” said Singh.
Lambasting on strategy of Kumar, in which he given all duties to the coordinators, Singh said that the Kumar assign duties to the coordinators but not a single coordinators were seen active during the election. “Kumar always ignored old party workers during his two year regime of the PCC Chief. He never meet with party workers except very few of them. There are around 15 spokespersons in the State but he used to talk to only one or two. After span of two years he still not constituted the State Committee,” he added.
Criticising State Congress Chief for his poor activeness during the poll campaign Singh said that Kumar was only taking part in the programme of Rahul Gandhi and he never campaign himself alone or with any party candidates from any seats. “I am saying this after consulting with several senior leaders of the party and at the same time I am requesting to the party High Command that it should immediately demand Kumar’s resignation or remove him from his post,” he added.
Congress National president Rahul Gandhi offered his resignation as the party president on Saturday taking moral defeat of the party’s crushing defeat in the election. Following Gandhi’s resignation some more PCC Chiefs such as Maharashtra unit president Ashok Chavan, Assam unit Chief Ripun Bora, Punjab Congress Chief Sunil Jhakar, Uttar Pradesh party Chief Raj Babbar and Odisha’s Niranjan Patnaik were resigned from their post.
