Jharkhand Parents Association (JPA) on Saturday wrote a letter to the Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Rai Mahimapat Ray requesting him to take cognizance in the matter of abrupt fees hike by various private schools of the city for the academic year 2019-20.
The letter urges the DC to ensure compliance with the provision of Jharkhand Education Tribunal (JET) (Amendment) Act 2017 regarding the fee hike in private schools of the city. The Act was implemented to enforce the law regarding the collection of fees by private schools in the State. The law was introduced in the Jharkhand Gazette on October 26, 2018 and has been notified in the entire State since January 7, 2019.
“In spite of the law being made and enforced and repeated complaints being filed, private schools in Ranchi have continued to increase the fees and no action is being taken by the administration regarding this. We have been working towards getting this law made and implemented since 2008,” said JPA president Ajay Rai.
Under the provisions of the Act, the schools have to form an internal Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) under which the school administration has to take suggestions from the parents before increasing the fees. “This committee has yet not been formed in most of the schools. Also, after the fees hike is decided, the schools have to send it to the committee formed under the chairmanship of the DC to take a final call on the fees hike,” Rai said.
