JP jail inmates get call facility

The Jharkhand Government has started a new service of providing call facility to the inmates of the jails. On trial basis this facility has been introduced at Jai Prakash Naryan Central Jail, Hazaribagh. Now the prisoners of this jail can contact their relatives through this service during their custody period.

The state government had taken this decision but it took time to implement it because there were many hazards on its path. After clearing all the hazards finally the scheme has grounded at Central Jail, Hazaribagh. The call facility will be available to such prisoners who are under custody. The prisoners will not have the right to make a call on their own; the jail administration will connect them with their relatives.

Jailor CK Suman said that this facility has been started in this jail in first phase on trial basis. If this will prove fruitful and standing norms will not be disturbed then this facilities will start in other jails of Jharkhand too. As per the scheme the prisoners will have to give three contact numbers in the office of the Jailor. After the confirmation, jailor will allow the prisoners to use the basic phone. A prisoner can use only three contact number in a day.

For security and safety purpose all the calls which would be made by the prisoners will be recorded. If any of the prisoners will be found misusing this facility then right there only all his contact numbers will be deleted and he will be deprived of this facility. Jailor Suman said that this facility will give mental satisfaction to the inmates. There are so many inmates who are in custody since long and are unable to contact their relatives. This facility will give them the opportunity to remain in touch with their close relatives.

He also added that once this facility will come into action successfully at state level then from this jail first time in Jharkhand direct video conferencing facility will be started. For the adequate functioning of this facility every Pragya Kendras of blocks will have to be furnished with video conferencing equipments. The work is on progress and the day is not too far when the inmates will talk to their relatives as and when needed.
